Blanche turns 92!

Yesterday was Blanche's 92nd birthday and she's already planning ahead for her 100th!  We had a delicious dinner at The Fish House and added a few books to her Kindle.

We pick up Connor and Kelleigh shortly from their week at church camp.  Originally Kelleigh was adamantly against going.  On Thursday night, her birthday, she called quite late which is very unusual given they never have in the past.  She was excited to share with us that she had accepted Christ and was being baptized on Friday.  She went on to tell me that she had cried a lot, had a lot to ask forgiveness for, and she was the happiest she has ever been.  It was as if I was talking to another child!  She called again last night to tell me about her day, asked three times if I could set up an appointment to see her counselor today, and about the new friends she had made.  While she is a little homesick, she has had an amazing time and wish it wasn't ending!  She is anxious to share her news with Ryan as he is allowed to have us visit on the 13th.  We serve a great God!

Our Princess is 13!

Even though Kelleigh is at camp today, I can't help but think about how excited we were 13 years ago!  Here is a picture from her scrapbook before we left the hospital ...

and her big brothers - Connor was 18 months and Ryan was 4.

Kelleigh's Early 13th Birthday Celebration

Since the kids leave tomorrow for church camp, Kelleigh will be gone for her actual birthday on Thursday (and she's not happy about it!).  She chose to celebrate it today rather than next weekend.  (Notice the different outfits throughout the day.)  So here was her day ...

It began when Dad brought her favorite cinnamon roll from Panera's (yes, I realize I need a new #3!) ...

One of her requests was for homemade banana bread so it was baking when she woke up ...

For dinner she requested Costco cheese pizza and Pick Up Stix potstickers ... interesting combination but two of her all-time favorites ...

Now on to the gifts ...

... Wheel of Fortune for the Wii ...

... Target gift card (isn't the cute butterfly shape darling!) ...

... new shirt ...

... card with a check and earrings (notice she changes right into the shirt and earrings) ...

... and her last request was a Chocolate Satin Pie from Marie Callenders in lieu of a cake.

Happy 13th birthday to our Princess!

Connor's Woodworking Projects

Here is what Connor made during his woodworking class.  (The next post has the rest of Kelleigh's artwork.)

The baseball bat is made with purple heart and oak.  Wooden bowl has black oak, pine, oak, and cherry.  Ryan's box is from cherry and maple.

Here are the other pieces Kell did during her art classes.

A little update ...

A few nights ago we had the most beautiful full moon.  Since it's been a while, I'll try and catch up on the latest news.

I finally received the picture I ordered of Connor's promotion ceremony from middle school.

Friday was their last day of the three weeks they were able to attend summer school classes at the private school Mark was teaching a class each morning at.  I need to photograph the rest of Kelleigh's artwork and the woodworking items Connor made during that time.  All of their work was amazing and they are hoping they can do it again next year!

Connor's dream came true when they handed out football uniforms last Thursday!  A moment he's been waiting on for 6 years!  This is the last week of one practice a day, then two weeks off, and then twice a day until school starts.

They are excited to leave for church camp next weekend.  So hard to believe that the end of July is so near as school starts in a little over a month.  Kell isn't very happy to be gone for her birthday so we will celebrate this Saturday.

Ryan has been gone a little over 7 weeks now and we haven't been allowed to visit him yet.  He is doing well behavior-wise but feels he doesn't have an addiction issue.  (Need I remind him he was home less than 3 months before he began seeking out drugs again...)  Hence, he is able to superficially do well but hasn't internalized his issues yet.  Until he does, he won't begin the path of true recovery.  It's hard not hearing from him directly but we're grateful for the friends who also have boys there that send us an update each Saturday after their visit and they let him know we are thinking about him and miss him.  Each night following grace Connor says the most heartfelt and sweetest prayers for him that choke me up every time.

As we were getting ready for dinner last night Connor answered the door and told me a police officer was there and wanted to see me.  Hmmm...  Turns out it was the woman who had arrested Ryan.  She was responding to a call up the street and had been thinking about us so wanted to stop and see how things were going.  I filled her in and told her how much her help that night meant to us.  As a friend said, this was just more evidence of God among us.  Her concern and kindness meant a lot to me.

There are rumors that the contract Mark works on may be cancelled by the Government which will really ruin our day.  I so don't want to go down the path of COBRA payments, etc. again!  Pray that something turns around or they transfer the San Diego folks to another project.

Guess that's all for now.  I've been enjoying time in my craft room and entering more challenges and contests along with a friend.  I'm trying to get better with keeping the blogs updated so if you're interested, go see what I've made on my craft blog.  This afternoon I'll take pictures of the kids projects and try and post those later today.  Until then ...

Cedar Creek Falls

Mark and Connor left early this mornng for a hike in Ramona to Cedar Creek Falls.  We had seen this featured in the newspaper as it has a waterfall, swimming hole, rope swing, and different height diving rocks.  It also warned that you needed lots of water and not to take pets as it's over 4 miles round trip.  As they were coming back, they passed a man who had suffered heat stroke and asked the guys to send the park rangers to help him as he wasn't responding to just water.  They also came across a family who had brought their golden retriever and the rangers were trying to save him.  The dog kept trying to find shade yet the owners kept dragging him on; rangers were dousing him with water to lower his body temperature in an attempt to save him.  Mark said it ruined the day despite the rangers checking to make sure you had water with you (or they wouldn't let you pass) and warning to not take pets.  So sad.  They both enjoyed the hike and said it was beautiful.

Connor spent a little time trying to catch some fish in the swimming hole!

The trail back up - yikes!

House Makeover

After almost 13 years, it was time for a new paint job!  A company has been doing many homes in our area as well as other developments and his prices can't be beat!  We chose a color scheme from the "approved HOA book" mainly because we liked the green trim color.  We both would have liked the stucco color to be a little darker but are thrilled with the green.  It's clean, fresh, and good for another 12 years!

Kelleigh's Drawings

While Mark is teaching a summer school class, Connor and Kelleigh are able to also take a class of their choice.  Kell chose Graphic Art and Connor chose Woodworking.  (When he brings home his project, I'll post it too!)  Below are some of the drawings/paintings that Kelleigh had in her sketchbook.  Because of their size, I could only photograph them so they aren't very clear.  She absolutely loves it and tells me every day how much she is learning.
